Parody by NadiaP (2020)

I Hate Sheep

For this project, I knew I wanted to use a song I liked. I decided to go with Creep by Radiohead, as it has been one of my favorite songs since I was young. After choosing my sign, I brainstormed some possible rhymes to word "creep," or tried to find other one-syllable words I could replace it with. I knew that the song would have to be funny so it couldn’t just be a random word; it had to be something I could easily work with. I wrote down a few ideas, and finally I settled on sheep. Since it was a parody production, I wanted to make the song a bit absurd. I decided to make the song about being scared of sheep. In order to make it relevant and not just about someone’s intense fear of sheep, I built a story into the song in which a person’s friend is asking them for help shearing their sheep, prompting the writer to tell their friend why they cannot help. The songwriting was actually the easiest part of this for me. I wrote it in a little more than ten minutes, then moved onto the actual production part.

Removing the vocals and then recording new ones was a struggle for me. I could not remember the exact progress for removing vocals, so I went back to my first project with removed vocals to see what I had done. I watched all of the tutorial videos again to make sure that I was doing it correctly. The hardest part of the project was trying to make sure I was doing everything well so that the final product would be enjoyable and funny to the audience. I was worried that I was messing it up and I probably spent more time going through and listening to it to make sure it was okay. If I could change something about my project, I would try to find a way further remove the vocals. I could still hear the original vocals right under my own, which I thought kind of messed up the whole thing. However, I am overall proud of the song. For my first project of this kind, I think it came together very well, and I am looking forward to seeing myself improve in the future. During this project I learned about Pro Tools, which I think is a valuable skill. I haven’t ever used any other DAWs, but I assume that they are all similar enough that my Pro Tools skills could carry over and help me use those as well.
